hate me but it is all envy (because they are more beautiful than you)
Queen of Camelot begins with fury.
Here, briefly, with some plot spoilers. The girl was born
Geneva causing the death of her mother Helene and is bred only by his father who adores her and leaves her free like a boy. Then the father dies and is taken from Geneva Pellinore and befriends the daughter Elaine is jealous of her beauty and the fact that upon her a powerful witch made a prediction: It will become important and the most powerful woman of all.
The rest of the story we know. Almost by accident, Arthur decides to take his wife in Geneva, after the death of his first wife, Elaine, bringing, madly in love with Arthur, to hate Geneva itself.
But Arthur can not come to bring the woman to Camelot and Lancelot sends trusted, a man who long before had sent to Geneva, at the request of Pellinore, a beautiful horse. Between Geneva and Lancelot is immediately love. But Arthur and Geneva
wife immediately falls in love with him and the king, and a gentle man of honor, who knows the affection between Geneva and Lancelot and feel sorry for them but loves them so so who knows the two do not betray you and it is.
The book is first-person point of view of Geneva, and went from his marriage to his advances as self-assured woman. Among the events recounted are the duel Acclon cloths and Arthur Morgan, the cruel Morgause and history with Lamorak, kidnapping Melwas, a fierce struggle between Christianity and paganism.
But we move on to my views.
A Geneva swinging from victimizing women in the world.
This is a beautiful book. As I said, begins with fury, painting a Geneva different from what we expect. It 's a Geneva a bit' shy, but absolutely sure what you want from life and does not want to become a wife or a queen. Among the defects, however, is the fact that his character seems to oscillate between a sudden weakness and a strength of character that I do not think they are painted very well. But it could be just me as being the first book in person speaks only of her.
The secondary characters are also beautifully painted. Plan, only if they are the "good .
We have one of Arthur's best that I have ever read. It 'kind, is aware of what's happening around, fights, we see him fight a duel, and kids happy. It 's so fascinating to read, I wondered how she Geneva to love him as Lancelot. But Lancelot is described in the round, I think it's more the character of all human, so human that we see well its faults (including the all too zealous Christian religion). Also among the characters so-called "good" we Mordred and Bedivere. Bedivere appears here in its entirety and not as often as only a shadow of the character Lancelot. Here, however, has its own character, is kind, is a great Kay's friend and is an accomplished songwriter.
Mordred is, as we know, the son of Arthur and Morgause and cold, but only outside. The Queen of Camelot Mordred differs from the cruel guy traitor many books that depict us. Mordred
This is very intelligent, is deeply loved by Arthur and adores him as the best of the sons would love the best of fathers, is also in love with the queen, taking back the old tradition of Monmouth.
But now we come to the defects of the book and we pass even to talk about the characters' bad. " The book follows
a complete, binary: we love all the good that Geneva, the worship and love her and are painted with positive characteristics (although some damage) and then we the bad guys, who are enemies of Geneva and are complete bastards. We
Morgause, terrible half-sister of Arthur, incestuous, manipulative, hate-brother to the point of seducing her son Gaheris to destroy it. He has fans everywhere, and even her children the little bear. And Morgan, wicked, wicked, deceitful, and she tossed a bell'amante, hated by her husband Urien, and willing to get rid of this daughter Morgaine when, after being raped, has more need her.
And yet, Elaine, vain, capricious and lying with Lancelot through a deception only for revenge against Geneva (and then they marry him) and that goes against the son Galahad Lancelot and Guinevere, who was also unbearably pedantic.
There's even a character who has a dignity of positive and negative (except perhaps the mother of Elaine) and do not get along with Geneva. We are faced with a clear duality, as I said.
And then at times the book falls into the typical " are beautiful and everybody loves me, but I hate the bad guys because they are too good . In general
Geneva's character is very intelligent (I loved the part that deals with the troops of Constantine) and also has a wonderful relationship with Arthur (who never lets you) and Mordred.
Mary Stewart would have approved?
Before closing I will speak only of another fault. I found the final part of the book, that dealing with the death of Morgause and Agravaine company and found that Lancelot and Guinevere together, too similar to that of the fateful day (Mary Stewart). As the fateful day we have a Mordred in Arthur trusts, we have an Arthur left Mordred as regent that, we have to avoid the prophecy that Mordred is ready to kill himself, a terrible Agravaine who discovers Lancelot and Guinevere together a letter that read, Mordred who is not involved in the raid but is caught while trying to stop it, Mordred who spies on young riders and so on. This thing I did not like, because the book was written long after that of Mary Stewart.
In any case, finally, I find that it was a very pleasant reading. Events follow quickly without leaving too much room for sentimentality and with a few difettuccio Geneva proves to be a great character, neither too weak nor too "butch."
Also worth a read if only for Bedivere and Arthur.
