Diary of a brilliant young man with mental disorders
The Winter Prince is the first in a series of books more or less dedicated to the Arthurian legend and written by Elizabeth Wein.
Maybe I'm biased or maybe not.
The book is imbued with passion.
Elizabeth Wein is a passionate, a real passionate of the Arthurian legend and this is shown by the force with which describes the feelings of his (in this case 'his') characters.
(And when I say that Elizabeth is a passionate Wein tell really: D I got to know and is a very kind person and a true arthuriangirl).
Who is brilliant?
The book is the first-person account of Medraut (Mordred), bastard son of King Arthur, born of an incestuous relationship between the king and the sister Morgause. Precisely because of his birth, Mordred can not become heir and instead chooses Lleu Arthur, fragile son born from Geneva and sister of the more determined Goewin.
The book narrates the problems of Mordred, his desire to be the perfect child for Arthur, to be praised by his father, his jealousy towards Lleu, his love Lleu and family hatred and love she feels for Morgause mother, that, as a good manipulator, holds in his hand.
It 's a book about feelings.
It is a journal of the legends as we know them because Elizabeth Wein chose to go back to basics and to rely on the Annales Cambriae where we do not know if Arthur (Artos here) and Medraut killed each other or simply died together in Camlann .
And this book is also a clear example of the review came with a sense of good and, unlike other .
Geneva is a faithful wife, it appears none of the riders who know (apart from Bedwyr, here, as in Culhwch and Olwen, without a hand) and the story is centered only on thoughts and events that relate Medraut, it is on a much more 'intimate' and staff than the novels that are written usually.
The book is in English but it's worth. For all fans of Mordred and all those who want to read a story of passion and jealousy, love and hate and a tragedy, this is the book for you!
(And yes, I know, this review has very little to the purpose).
